The Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited had sought permission from the government for the helipad atop the building in posh Cuffe Parade area. The government changed the Development Control (DC) regulations last year to permit helipads atop buildings, paving the way for the ‘Seawind’ helipad plan. Environmentalists had objected to the plan, saying noise pollution would violate provisions of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. The MCZMA heard the matter on August 24 after which the proposal was cleared.
