Book sellers find Mysore a good mkt

Having a large number of educational and research institutions, Mysore no wonder is a book lovers’ paradise for book sellers, both local and others. A huge number of student population is always looking for textbooks and related books, both new and second hand and to serve them and other buyers, book sellers keep organising book exhibitions regularly at one venue or the other. Sensex ends up 35pts To follow the exhibition is a five-day book expo at the Maharaja’s College grounds from February 5 being organised by the State Kannada Book Authority. Around 100 book sellers and publishers are expected to participate in the state-level book exhibition-cum-sale for which the authority is making elaborate arrangements in co-operation with the local administration. Perhaps, such a big showcasing of Kannada books will be for the first time in the recent years in this city of large number of academics and academic institutions. The tahsildars have been asked to conduct awareness programmes among the public and in schools in their respective taluks and send students in batches to the exhibition to create an interest in books and for encouraging reading habits among them. The university heads and the officials of the Department of Education have been asked to make bulk purchases out of the grants available to them. Central and state academy award winning books and other award winning and prestigious Kannada books will be showcased prominently, according to Authority chief Siddalingaiah. Cultural programmes in the evenings will be an added attraction. “The response to our book exhibition has been good,” says Navakarnataka Mysore branch manager N K Sathyanarayana and adds “books on personality development, yoga and such other subjects are in good demand.” “We are back at the Institution of Engineers for our exhibition, as we find the Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry expensive and cuts our margins badly after expenses,” he tells Business Standard.
