Composite silk unit in near Guwahati
Assam, which produces three types of indigenous wild silks – Muga, Pat and Eri, today got a composite silk unit at Chaygaon Industrial Growth Centre, near Guwahati. The composite unit, or Eri Spun Silk Mill, came up with an investment of Rs. 5.5 crore, which includes infrastructure for spun silk mill, machineries, looms etc. The unit is expected to go a long way in adding value to the silk industry of Assam. The unit was inaugurated by union minister of textiles, Dayanidhi Maran. For the establishment of the unit, along with additional facilities like weaving processing and dyeing etc., the Central Silk Board (CSB), under the ministry of textiles, and the state government of Assam had provided a subsidy of Rs. 155.30 lakh and Rs. 48.10 lakh respectively to the promoter of the unit, Fabric Plus Pvt. UBI likely to float IPO by early February
United Bank of India (UBI) is likely to file a red herring prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Board of India for their initial public offer (IPO) next week, Chairman Satish C Gupta has said. “We hope to come out with the IPO by end January or early February,” Gupta said.

The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,458, down 28 points. The NSE Nifty has ended (provisional) at 5,220, down five points. Earlier, the Sensex pared gains on weak cues from the Asian markets and dropped to a low of 17,425. The index has now recovered to 17,451 - down 35 point. The Nifty is down 16 points at 5,210. Jaiprakash Associates has shed 3% at Rs 155. ONGC has dropped 2.6% to Rs 1,166. DLF and Sterlite have declined nearly 2% each to Rs 373 and Rs 854, respectively. Wipro has slipped 1.5% to Rs 727 in spite of a strong Q3 performance. HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma and ACC are the other losers in the index now. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel has gained 3% at Rs 330. Tata Steel has added 2.3% to Rs 653. Hindalco is up 1% at rs 165. Maruti Suzuki and ICICI Bank has added 1-2% each. HDFC has moved up marginally following the announcement of its Q3 numbers. The BSE market breadth is negative. Out of 2,956 stocks traded, 1,746 have declined while 1,123 have advanced.
